Consumer increasingly buy organic food: in 2016, the expenditure on organic products increased by 10%.

Organic baby food is also on the rise. According to research by the Dutch Rabobank, organic baby food is one of the product categories with the largest market share in organic product. It also has many benefits for your child. What aspects to pay attention to in order to buy the best baby food for your baby?

Organic bottle-based foods must consist of at least 95% organic ingredients. This means:
• Chemical pesticides or artificial fertilizer may not be used;
• The cows must graze the meadows for at least 120 days a year;
• If the weather is not suitable for outdoor use, the cows must be in a spacious barn and only be given organic food.

In organic infant nutrition, several ingredients are organic and artificial fragrances, colors and flavors are not being used. Genetically modified ingredients and preservatives are also not included in organic bottle feeding. Besides the fact that the origin of the milk is organic, there are also ingredients that can be organic or sustainable.

DHA: since 2016, all bottle foods must contain DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid that is good for the heart, blood pressure and brain. Fish oil is often used as a source of DHA, but it is also possible to use sustainably extracted DHA from algae.
GOS: GOS can be added to organic formula, this is a prebiotic fiber that is good for your baby’s intestines. Biological GOS is added to some organic baby food.

Not all organic bottle foods contain organic GOS or sustainable DHA, so this might be something to consider when choosing a baby food brand.
